For years, German shipyards have been in crisis, and now a billion-dollar order is raising hopes. Neptune Smulders and Siemens Energy are building an offshore platform to bring wind power on land. Up to 500 jobs could be created.
For the first time, a German shipyard has been awarded the contract for the new, large substation platforms on the high seas. Nevertheless, wind power expansion has stalled.
The Neptune shipyard in Rostock, a subsidiary of the Meyer-Werft, receives a billion-dollar order in a business that has so far been empty. This not only helps the shipyards and the location of Germany – but also in the election campaign.
