Chile's Kast Unveils Slew of Reforms Including Corporate Tax Rate Cut ...
- On Wednesday, Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast unveiled a 40-measure reform package aimed at revitalizing economic growth and promoting job stability across the nation.
- Kast described the policies as a "reconstruction" initiative, urging Congress to pass the measures quickly, stating, "This bill is not an ideological agenda. It is a concrete response to... real emergencies."
- Central to the plan is a gradual corporate tax reduction from 27% to 23%, injecting $1.4 billion into the productive sector and benefiting 235,000 SMEs while protecting more than 4 million workers.
- Other reforms include 400 billion pesos in funds for fire-hit regions, temporary VAT exemptions on new homes, and streamlined environmental permits for mining projects.
- Kast aims to lift annual economic growth to around 4% from last year's 2.5%, but analysts express skepticism; allied right-wing blocs hold just 76 of 155 lower-house seats and 25 of 50 Senate seats.
