Many celebrated their victory when boxer Imane Khelif admitted in an interview recently that she has high testosterone levels. She was therefore admitting that she is actually a man. This is not the case and factual errors still prevail in the discussion about the participation of intersex women in sports.
Imane Khelif, an Algerian trans woman (biological man) who competed in the female category as a boxer, has confirmed that she is a man. Indeed, she has publicly admitted to owning the SRY gene (Sex-determining Region Y) which, located on the Y chromosome, is responsible for initiating male development in the embryo. Khelif competed as a woman at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and won the gold medal.
