Off duty, in civilian clothes: GRP ASI shot at just 1 km from home in Ajnala
Police said the off-duty GRP officer was shot by three motorcycle riders and is out of danger as investigators review CCTV footage.
- On Sunday, three unidentified bike-borne assailants shot Government Railway Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhchain Singh near Ajnala, Punjab, while he was returning from duty at Amritsar Railway Station.
- Singh was traveling in plain clothes on his motorcycle toward his native village of Jagdev Khurd when the ambush occurred near the Jagdev Kalan canal between 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
- One bullet struck Singh in the left upper arm and passed through, after which he was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ajnala, where he is reported to be out of danger.
- Singh suspects the shooting may be linked to an old family feud involving his brother's murder, stating, "I was in plain clothes, so they likely knew who I was."
- Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharminder Kalyan confirmed an FIR is registered, stating, "An investigation is being conducted from every angle, and action will be taken based on the facts that emerge.
