Of Course Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Sold Fantastically Well on the Switch eShop, Despite All the Pricing Complaints
- In just six weeks, Nintendo generated around $80 million selling Game Boy Advance titles FireRed and LeafGreen, with the two retro games selling more than 4 million copies.
- While other Game Boy Advance titles were added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack for free, Nintendo opted to sell these games separately for $20 each, sparking backlash.
- Sales are currently on par with Switch hit Pokopia, and Nintendo defended the strategy as a "fun" celebration of the franchise's recent 30-year milestone.
- Fans have suggested Nintendo could re-release Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, which feature fan-favorite creatures such as Groudon and Rayquaza.
- Another retro release would help fill the gap until next-generation adventures Winds and Waves arrive in 2027, though Nintendo has not indicated plans for such re-releases.
