20 Lakh Names Deleted After SIR Phase I in Odisha
Claims and objections run for a month as officials say 8.32 lakh deleted voters were deceased and 1.58 lakh were listed in multiple places.
- On Sunday, the Election Commission published Odisha's draft electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision, identifying over 20 lakh names for deletion and reducing total electors to 3.13 crore from 3.33 crore.
- Of the deleted voters, 8.32 lakh were deceased, 10.07 lakh had shifted elsewhere or remained absent during the enumeration exercise, and 1.58 lakh held multiple registrations across locations.
- Challenging the official report, Opposition BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra alleged that nearly 27 lakh names were excluded, citing inconsistencies in figures provided at different stages of the revision process.
- Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan urged eligible voters to verify their details with Booth Level Officers, noting claims and objections will be accepted until August 4, 2026 for inclusion in the final roll.
- Scrutiny of claims by 147 Electoral Registration Officers concludes September 2, 2026, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on September 6, 2026, completing the revision process.

"When the SIR process started, there were 3 crore 33 lakh electors. Now, out of that, 20 lakh electors have been deleted and right now we have 3 crore 13 lakh 87 thousand 34 electors. Out of that, 1 crore 60 lakh 19 thousand 176 are male, 1 crore 53 lakh 65 thousand 83 are female, and 2,775 are third gender," he said.
