ODFW releases specific regulatory changes to address whale entanglement

Since 2019, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has been implementing measures to reduce the risk of whale entanglements in the commercial crab fishery.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission implemented two new rules for dungeness crab fishermen on Aug. 14, the first requires electronic monitoring for commercial crab vessels and the second updates guidelines for experimental fishing gear permits.
