- E-Bike and e-motorcycle injuries have surged 430% over the last four years, becoming the number one reason Orange County children are admitted to emergency rooms, prompting the buyback initiative.
- Participants can exchange vehicles for gift cards ranging from $200 to $1,000, with the first 75 attendees also receiving two Los Angeles Angels tickets; OCDA spokesperson Kimberly Edds noted the program uses funds seized from criminal enterprises.
- Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer created the RIDE SAFELY unit in May to review potential criminal charges against juveniles and adults, ramping up prosecution of parents allowing children to ride illegal e-motorcycles.
