In oases in the Arabian Desert, ceramic wares already had a kind of trademark system in place during the Bronze Age, 3,200 years ago. Two-tone painted vessels were so distinctive, aesthetically pleasing, and in high demand that they can confidently be considered trademarks, according to an international study led by Marta Luciani of the University of Vienna, published in the journal "PLOS One".
