The New York City Board of Elections (BOE) certified the results of the Republican primary for the 47th City Council District on Tuesday: George Sarantopoulos defeated Brooklyn Republican Party President Richie Barsamian by just 16 votes to become the district's Republican nominee. He will compete against Democratic candidate Kelda Sanzo Sosa in November for the seat left by outgoing Councilwoman Stella McCarty.
