Nvidia Partners with Noetra for 140MW Vera Rubin Cluster in Japan
The 140MW system will support Japan’s domestic AI robotics project and help train multimodal foundation models for manufacturing and other industries, Nvidia said.
- On Thursday, Nvidia Corp. and Noetra Corp. launched a 140MW AI factory in Japan, establishing the country's first national AI infrastructure. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the partnership aims to "open a new frontier for robotics and intelligence manufacturing for Japan."
- Established in January by a consortium of 44 Japanese companies, Noetra operates with 1 trillion yen in government financial support over five years. The initiative integrates industrial data with global technology leaders to advance multimodal foundation models for physical AI.
- Built on Nvidia's Vera Rubin DSX architecture, the deployment comprises 13,750 Vera CPUs and 27,500 Rubin GPUs housed in Nvidia NVL72 racks. Interconnected by Spectrum-X Ethernet, these systems deliver the computing power needed for autonomous robotics development.
- Industry minister Ryosei Akazawa noted the ministry's FRONTia initiative "aims to combine Japan's strengths in manufacturing" with global AI research capabilities. Nvidia also expanded partnerships with Toyota Motor Corp. and Fujitsu Ltd. to develop AI-powered robotics for manufacturing and healthcare services.
- Japan aims to introduce 10 million AI robots across the country by 2040, targeting a more than 30 percent share of the global AI robotics market. This strategy addresses labor shortages and offsets the decline in skilled workers nationwide.
