NTPC-NPCIL joint venture to set up 2.8 GW nuclear plant in Rajasthan

India will soon have its first nuclear plant not fully owned by NPCIL. A joint venture plans a 2.8-GW project at Rajasthan’s Mahi Banswara. This significant project will feature four indigenous 700-MW pressurised heavy water reactors. The government aims to boost nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047. New rules are being drafted to encourage private sector participation in nuclear energy.
