Tim Kentley Klay founded Zoox in South Melbourne and drew up a vehicle with no steering wheel and no pedals. Amazon bought the company in 2020 for $US1.2 billion. Its toaster-shaped cars are now the first robotaxis anywhere to charge passengers for a ride with no driver controls at all, operating in San Francisco and taking fares in Las Vegas.
