Ferrari and BMW are rolling out new models featuring lightweight, cost-effective aluminium wiring, accelerating a shift away from copper, the dominant material in electric wiring since the invention of the electric battery two centuries ago.
Aluminum's lower cost and lighter weight mean it is increasingly replacing copper in electric cars. In addition to the Chinese, who are primarily concerned with price, it is also being chosen by Ferrari.
The change is not only visible in the cheaper categories: after Tesla, BMW and Ferrari are also switching.
