Forest Owner Marinakis Sues Crystal Palace After Provocative Fan Banner
Marinakis alleges the banner accused him of criminal conduct and named CPFC Limited and Persons Unknown as defendants in the High Court case.
- On Monday, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sued Premier League rivals Crystal Palace for libel at London's High Court over a provocative banner displayed by supporters at Selhurst Park last August.
- Tensions boiled after Palace were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League for breaking UEFA multi-club ownership rules, with Forest taking their place in the second-tier competition.
- The banner depicted Marinakis holding a gun to midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, with text stating, "Mr Marinakis is not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption." Marinakis has repeatedly denied such allegations.
- Marinakis filed the case against CPFC Limited and "Persons Unknown" as defendants. In November 2025, the Football Association charged Palace for failing to ensure supporters did not behave in an "improper, offensive, abusive or provocative way."
- Neither Marinakis's lawyers nor Palace immediately responded to requests for comment on the lawsuit. While The Eagles eventually won the Conference League as their first-ever European trophy, the legal battle now moves through the High Court.
