Bank Indonesia launches domestic retail credit card network to cut reliance on Visa, Mastercard
Seeking to enhance the country’s financial infrastructure and lower transaction overheads across domestic commercial networks, Indonesia's central bank has launched its national retail credit card framework.
Bank Indonesia and ASPI officially launched the Indonesian Credit Card (KKI) as a credit-based payment instrument processed domestically. |KKI can be used as a source of transaction funds through QRIS, either by scan or Tap method, so that users can transact with a deferred payment facility. |Since August 17, 2026, eight PJPs have issued KKI, while BI also expanded the 0 percent MDR QRIS policy starting October 1, 2026.
