Victoriaville wants to increase its canopy, which is less than that of the agglomeration of Montreal. To achieve this, the municipality of Centre-du-Québec has adopted a measure of eco-fiscality unique to Quebec. Owners who do not have enough trees on their land will have to pay an annual fee based on their percentage of canopy.
In Victoriaville, if your land falls below 5% of trees over three metres, you will pay an additional $38 per year in municipal taxes.
