Field of Dreams Becomes Home Base for Northwoods League Expansion Team
Fans will help name the team as the league brings college summer baseball to the Field of Dreams starting in 2027.
On Thursday, the Northwoods League announced a permanent collegiate baseball team will play at the Field of Dreams Ballpark starting with the 2027 season, bringing professional summer baseball to the iconic Iowa venue.
Field of Dreams Ballpark General Manager Tyler Daugherty called the partnership 'exactly the kind of partnership we envisioned when we started building this ballpark,' emphasizing the venue's proven appeal.
Northwoods League President and Commissioner Ryan Voz noted the league is the largest collegiate baseball circuit in history, with nearly 2,400 alumni drafted and more than 410 reaching Major League Baseball.
While the team name remains undecided, fans can submit suggestions online as the venue hosts the Northwoods League All-Star Game on July 8 and hosts the MLB Field of Dreams game.
The Dyersville franchise becomes the second Northwoods League team in Iowa, joining the Waterloo Bucks, and the league claims it will be the only team with an MLB-ready stadium.
