SARANAC LAKE — Longtime Saranac Lake veterinarian, activist and bobsledder John Cogar died Thursday afternoon. State Police say he drowned in Lower Saranac Lake, north of Eagle Island. He was 76.

New York State Police on Sunday located the body of a 76-year-old man who was reported drowning in Saranac Lake last week. The incident was called in around 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21. The. report was John D. Cogar of Saranac Lake, jumped into the lake just north of Eagle Island, but did not resurface.
