Noem Blames NYC Sanctuary City Policy for Border Patrol Officer Shooting
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY, JUL 21 – Two illegal immigrants with extensive criminal records attempted to rob an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer who was shot but managed to return fire, authorities said.
- Late Saturday, two illegal immigrant suspects were taken into custody after shooting an off-duty CBP officer in Fort Washington Park, Manhattan, during an attempted robbery.
- As of July 21, 2025, sanctuary city policies allowed the suspect's multiple arrests and April 2023 re-entry, with a policy blocking ICE detainers without convictions, according to Kristi Noem, Homeland Security Secretary.
