Video. Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, 85, said she initially thought the news was a joke when she learned she had won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The former judge said she wanted to verify the announcement before believing it.
Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Kristian Berg Harpviken, called to congratulate Navanethem Navi Pillay.
Chairman of the committee stated that he has not yet been able to contact the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize of 2026 to communicate the decision
"Unfortunately, we couldn't talk to Pillay. So my message to her would be: if a Norwegian number calls you, please answer.
