Municipalities at the Limit: Urban and Municipal Federation Calls for Structural Improvements

The municipalities in Lower Saxony are financially and humanly at the limit. The NSGB President Dr. Marco Trips calls for structural improvements and more support from the federal and state governments. At the meeting of the district association Hannover he announced a tougher course in case of unsuccessful discussions.

The federal government's current tax estimate will not provide any relief for cities and municipalities. Göttingen is also affected. Despite the positive record financial results for 2023, the city has calculated a record deficit of €88 million for 2024. The financial situation remains strained – this is now clearly demonstrated by the spring tax estimate.
