The municipal council of Zaanstad yesterday evening approved the proposal of the board of mayor and aldermen to charge an entrance fee for the Zaanse Schans. The intention is that tourists will pay 17.50 euros to visit the tourist attraction from the high season of next year.

A majority of the municipal council of Zaanstad does not want a referendum on the announced levy of entrance fees for the Zaanse Schans. A group of critics of the plan had submitted a request for a referendum under the motto ‘Keep the Zaanse Schans open!’. That request was not granted.
