NNPCL to Deploy 70 Self-Service Fuel Stations Nationwide as Petrol Attendants Fear Job Loss
- The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited plans to deploy 50 to 70 smart, self-service fuel stations nationwide within six months to transform conventional outlets into modern energy hubs offering petrol, electric vehicle charging, LPG, CNG, and other services.
- The first commissioned smart station, located in Abuja and powered by solar energy, features multiple fuel pumps, six EV charging points, and amenities like a restaurant and car wash, aiming to provide 24-hour service with digital fuel dispensing via a mobile app.
- Executive Vice President Mumuni Dagazau stated that the self-service model will not lead to job losses and will instead create more jobs requiring staff to support technology and customer service, with attendants remaining to assist customers.
- The company intends to modernize existing stations across Nigeria, responding to changing consumer demands for quality service, sustainability, digital payment, and offering multiple energy options amid sector deregulation and growth in domestic refining.
