ABUJA, NIGERIA, JUN 4 – Trial postponed after Nnamdi Kanu failed to appear in court; charges include terrorism and treason linked to pro-Biafran activism, lawyer said.
Nnamdi Kanu's trial was adjourned to October 21 after he failed to appear in Abuja court, with the judge stating proceedings cannot start without him.
Following his return at the end of June, Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB leader, was arrested abroad after four years on the run and faces charges of terrorism and treason in Nigeria.
Evidence shows 127 security personnel killed, 20 stations stormed, and weapons found in July raids involving 12 arrests.
About 50 Yoruba community members in Benin gathered outside court to support Kanu; many journalists were denied access, highlighting limited media coverage.
Following a June Kenyan High Court ruling, Kanu’s rendition was declared illegal, with damages of 10 million shillings awarded, prompting IPOB to urge Nigerian courts to consider the verdict.
