N.J. cop who admitted stealing $75K from union following shoplifting probe gets prison time

A South Brunswick Police officer who admitted stealing over $75,000 from a local police union was sentenced Tuesday to five years in state prison, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.The case began last year after an investigation revealed Abraham “Jason” Gassman, 53, shoplifted bedding items valued at about $100 from a Target in Ocean Township and left the scene in his police vehicle, the office said.
