- WHO noted that both infections were limited to one district and there was no record of symptomatic travel by the patients, citing India's prior Nipah outbreak experience showing no sustained human-to-human transmission.
- Following confirmation, central and state health authorities identified, traced, monitored and tested 196 contacts, enacting enhanced surveillance, laboratory testing and infection control measures.
- Regional governments moved quickly to intensify border screening, with Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Nepal reinstating Covid-style traveller checks and Singapore's airport authorities adding temperature screening.
- Nipah is primarily transmitted from fruit bats and can cause fever and encephalitis with a fatality rate of 40% to 75%, while no approved vaccines exist though an Oxford-linked candidate is being tested.
