Nigeria: Soldiers Reject N13.7m Bribe From Terrorists
PLATEAU, NIGERIA, JUL 17 – Troops of Operation Safe Haven arrested two terror suspects after rejecting a N13.7 million bribe and recovered weapons and vehicles amid intensified counterterrorism efforts, officials said.
- On July 9, troops of Operation Safe Haven intercepted a vehicle along the Jos–Sanga Road, and suspects attempted to bribe them with N13.7 million, which they declined, according to Markus Kangye.
- In the broader campaign, DHQ confirmed 77 suspects linked to terrorism, oil theft, and violent crimes were arrested between July 10 and 17, 2025, across nine states including Anambra, Borno, and Bayelsa.
- In the aftermath, two suspects were arrested, with troops recovering weapons, ammunition, a vehicle, and the N13.7 million bribe, according to DHQ.
- Markus Kangye praised the troops' professionalism and integrity for refusing the N13.7 million bribe, reaffirming the military's commitment to ethical standards and anti-terrorism efforts.
- In his closing remarks, Markus Kangye called for vigilance, noting `public support, including from the media, is vital to our mission’s success.
