Nigeria’s Registered Voters Rise Above 103m Ahead of 2027 Elections
INEC said 10,772,421 new registrants lifted the voter roll as it prepares printable PVC distribution and other election logistics.
- On Monday, Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan confirmed Nigeria's National Register of Voters has risen to over 103 million ahead of the 2027 elections.
- The three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise attracted 10,772,421 new registrants nationwide, with 2,611,266 registered in the first phase, 4,121,835 in the second, and 3,867,997 in the third.
- Strengthening technology ahead of the 2027 elections, the commission acquired 57,000 additional Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines. Enhanced eEC8A forms were introduced to authenticate polling-unit results before upload.
- Nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards commences Friday, October 9, with newly produced cards distributed to Local Government Area centres. INEC is working with EFCC, ICPC, and NFIU to monitor campaign financing.
- Nigerian Guild of Editors President Eze Anaba urged voters to determine election winners rather than courts, emphasizing electoral integrity. Preparations have entered the "amber zone" with eight of 14 statutory activities completed.

Amupitan said, in line with Section 10 of the Electoral Act 2026, the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) commenced on Aug. 25, 2025, and ended on Dec. 10, 2025, during which a total of 2,611,266 voters were registered.
