- On Tuesday, Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife to solicit royal support for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
- Amupitan, accompanied by 12 National Commissioners, described the poll as "the most consequential off-cycle election in Nigeria," noting it serves as a critical mirror for the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
- Separately, stakeholders at a one-day policy dialogue in Osogbo warned that misinformation and hate speech could trigger electoral violence, urging citizens to embrace fact-checking ahead of the August 15 poll.
- Responding, the Ooni stated that traditional rulers remain above partisan politics, while urging INEC to "do what is right, just and fair" to ensure stability in Osun.
- INEC also announced that 2027 general elections will commence with presidential and National Assembly polls on January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and State House of Assembly contests on February 6, 2027.
