Nigeria: El-Rufai Back in Court After Mother's Burial

- Authorities allege El-Rufai received $817,900 in foreign deposits and inflated severance pay totaling N579.7 million. Prosecutors claim each payment "represents 300% of your annual basic salary", indicating proceeds of corruption.
- El-Rufai returned to the Federal High Court on Tuesday after the ICPC granted temporary release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother Hajiya Umma El-Rufai's burial in Abuja on Sunday.
- Beyond the ICPC case, El-Rufai faces separate allegations from the State Security Service over phone-tapping claims involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, while maintaining his innocence across all proceedings.
