- On World Environment Day 2025 in Port Harcourt, the Niger Delta Development Commission initiated a tree-planting program spanning all nine states within the Niger Delta region.
- The campaign followed concerns about environmental degradation caused by deforestation, plastic pollution, and unethical practices in the Niger Delta region.
- The initiative included donating seven waste segregation facilities to Rivers State University and a stakeholders meeting to raise awareness and promote behavioral change.
- Onuoha Obeka, NDDC Director of Environmental Protection, noted that the existing waste management framework, combined with the new separated waste bins, would enhance the efficiency of waste collection efforts.
- The NDDC aims to enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and foster community development to build a sustainable future for Niger Delta residents.
