Nigella Lawson to replace Prue Leith on The Great British Bake Off
- On Monday , Channel 4 announced Nigella Lawson, TV chef and food writer, will replace Dame Prue Leith as a judge on The Great British Bake Off; Lawson said she is `uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now` and `bubbling with excitement` about the honour.
- Leith explained in a Wednesday statement that, having joined when the show moved to Channel 4 in 2017 replacing Mary Berry, she `feels like the right time to step back` at 86 to enjoy summers in her garden.
- The programme will return for its 17th series later this year and Lawson is set to begin filming this spring alongside Paul Hollywood, Alison Hammond, and Noel Fielding.
- Love Productions and former colleagues reacted, noting Ralph Lee called Lawson `one of the most influential and beloved voices in food`, Ian Katz said she forms a `dream team of British telly`, and Dame Prue Leith praised her as `sassy, fun`.
- Lawson's appointment positions her as a return to Channel 4, where her TV career began with Nigella Bites in 1999 and she will join The Great British Bake Off later this year as the show remains a ratings winner, with Season 16's peak at 8.7M viewers.
