Pahalgam: India Charges Pakistan-Based Militant Groups, Six Others in Kashmir Killings
The National Investigation Agency charged seven accused, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba handler Sajid Jatt, alleging a Pakistan-backed conspiracy behind the Pahalgam attack that killed 26.
- On Monday , the National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet in a special court in Jammu, naming Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and TRF handler Sajid Jatt as a prime accused.
- On 22 April this year, the Pahalgam ambush killed 25 tourists and one local civilian after attackers checked ID cards and opened fire with AK-47s and M4 carbines, lasting 30 to 40 minutes.
- NIA investigators found during an almost eight-month probe that the 1,597-page chargesheet names three Pakistani terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev and includes Pakistani contact numbers, Facebook IDs, photographs, Aadhar cards, and at least 20 exhibits.
- The NIA has charged Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front under BNS, 2023, Arms Act, 1959 and UAPA, 1967, with two locals arrested on June 22, 2025, and a Rs 10 lakh reward for Sajid Jatt.
- The Resistance Front initially claimed responsibility for the attack and then retracted it, a fortnight later India launched Operation Sindoor targeting nine terror complexes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and after 87 hours India and Pakistan reached a bilateral understanding on 10 May to cease firing.
