China Must Stop Human Rights Abuses Against Imprisoned Activists, UN Expert Says
A U.N. human rights expert is urging the Chinese communist regime to uphold the rights of imprisoned human rights defenders and disclose detailed information about several detained activists, including missing Chinese human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng. Hubei human rights defender Yin Xuan'an, who was persecuted and imprisoned, suffered prolonged torture, becoming critically ill. His blood pressure reached 300 mmHg, leading to multiple suicide attempts. Even after his release from prison, authorities continued to prevent him from seeking medical treatment in Beijing. Recently, he issued an urgent appeal for help: "I hope more people will pay attention to my situation so that I can survive."
According to the CHRD, Gao has not been seen since 13 August 2017 when he tried to escape the surveillance he was subjected to in the central province of Shaanxi with the help of activists.
