NFL suspends, fines 49ers owner Jed York after prostitution sting arrest
On Friday, the NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy.
York's suspension stems from his August 23 arrest in East Palestine, Ohio, during a prostitution sting; he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
In a statement Friday, York called his actions an "inexcusable mistake" and accepted the decision. Having remained away from the team during the first three regular-season games, he is credited with three games served.
Returning on Tuesday, October 20, York joins other owners suspended in recent years, including the late Colts owner Jim Irsay, who received a six-game suspension and $500,000 fine in 2014.
The league's Personal Conduct Policy states illegal or dangerous conduct "undercuts public respect and support for the NFL." York's tenure as principal owner began in 2024 after purchasing additional equity from his mother, Denise DeBartolo York.
