New York jury convicts Montreal father of murder in death of 9-year-old daughter
Jurors said cellphone and vehicle data disproved his kidnapping claim, and Frattolin now faces life in prison at sentencing in October.
- An Essex County jury found Montreal resident Luciano Frattolin guilty of second-degree murder on Monday in the death of his nine-year-old daughter, Melina Frattolin.
- Melina Frattolin was reported missing on July 19, 2025, while on a trip in the United States; her body was discovered the next day in a marsh near Ticonderoga, New York, about 400 kilometres north of New York City.
- Frattolin initially claimed his daughter was kidnapped by two men in a white van, but prosecution presented cellphone and car data placing him at the scene where the body was found.
- Jurors also convicted Frattolin of concealing his daughter's body after deliberating for just over an hour following a three-week trial.
- Sentencing is set for October 14, concluding legal proceedings in the North Country case involving the Montreal girl's 2025 death.
