New VA program launches to help veterans avoid foreclosure on their homes
The program lets veterans catch up on missed payments while keeping their original loan terms, and they must make three on-time trial payments.
On Tuesday, The Department of Veterans Affairs launched the Partial Claim Program to help Veterans facing financial struggles avoid foreclosure while maintaining their original VA-backed loan terms.
The Home Loan Program Reform Act, passed by Congress, authorized the Partial Claim Program to provide Veterans a way to get current on mortgages while at risk of defaulting on home loans.
Veterans must complete a three-month trial payment plan making on-time payments; Veterans Affairs then pays Servicers the overdue amount, which the Veteran repays when the loan is sold, refinanced, or paid in full.
Secretary Doug Collins said, "We are grateful to Congress and President Trump for creating VA's Partial Claim Program, which will help keep thousands of Veterans in their homes." Veterans struggling with Servicers should call 877-827-3702, option 6.
By Nov 28, 2026, Servicers must implement the program into their systems; authorization extends through July 30, 2030, and the initiative joins other options like 40-year loan modifications available to Veterans.
