New Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) A village chief candidate in New Taipei was released on NT$100,000 (US$3,145) and barred from leaving the country as prosecutors probe whether he attempted to illegally influence voters by giving out free haircuts and douhua.
The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office recently received intelligence that a team of candidates for village chief in Tongrong Village, Taishan District, solicited bribes from voters in August under the guise of a "Father's Day free haircut event," offering haircuts costing NT$100 and treats to tofu pudding.
