New survey finds more WA businesses considering moving out of state
AWB said 24% of employers are considering leaving, while 38% plan to expand in another state and 46% expect a recession.
A recent Association of Washington Business survey of more than 400 members found about 24 percent of employers are considering relocating their business operations out of Washington.
Irwin identified taxes as the top concern, followed by healthcare and the regulatory environment, with the Climate Commitment Act adding about 52 to 58 cents per gallon to fuel costs.
In Spokane County, 67% of respondents reported considering moving their personal residence out of state, while unleaded fuel prices in Washington reached $5.76 per gallon on Thursday.
Contradicting Irwin's assessment that it's "extremely difficult" to do business, Invest in WA Now reports the "millionaire class" grew by 46.9% in Washington despite the state's capital gains tax.
Next year, 46% of businesses expect a recession while only 9% plan to expand within Washington, down from 20% in winter 2025.
