Railways Revises Basic Passenger Fares From July 1
- The Ministry of Railways revised basic passenger train fares effective July 1, 2025, across India.
- This revision followed five years without fare hikes and aims to enhance financial sustainability amid below-target revenues.
- Fares increased by up to two paise per kilometre for AC classes, one paisa for Mail/Express non-AC, and half paisa for ordinary non-AC beyond 500 km, while up to 500 km fares remain unchanged.
- The fare update applies to premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, and others, with ancillary charges, GST, and fare rounding principles unchanged, and tickets booked before July 1 remain valid at old rates.
- All Zonal Railways have been directed to implement the revision smoothly and update fare displays to reflect the revised structure to passengers.
