New research reveals half of UK women would consider a driverless taxi
New research from Covertime.com found 39% of 1,120 UK licensed drivers would use a driverless taxi, with women showing the strongest interest.
London is launching driverless taxi pilots for passengers, marking a landmark moment for autonomous transport as new research shows significant public interest in the technology.
A study of 1,120 drivers by Covertime shows 39% are open to using autonomous taxis, with 17% ready immediately and 22% willing to try after seeing others use them first.
Women were more enthusiastic than men, with 50% considering driverless taxis compared to 31% of men; among women, personal safety is the primary motivation for considering these autonomous vehicles.
Tom Warsop, director of marketing at Covertime, noted that public attitudes towards autonomous transport may be shifting faster than expected as the technology becomes visible.
While fully autonomous transport faces a trust challenge, the industry aims to build confidence; as more people see vehicles operating safely, willingness to use this technology could increase significantly.
