The prices of non-missed products on European tables could increase considerably if the European Union introduces stricter rules for pesticides used by producers outside the Community block. Coffee and citrus fruits are among the products that could be affected, according to an analysis carried out by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
The European Union wants to tighten safety requirements for pesticide residues in products imported from outside the EU. This could restrict imports and, consequently, raise prices for European consumers on a range of products, including coffee and citrus fruits.
