Eli Lilly Launches Oral Weight-Loss Pill Foundayo in UK
The oral GLP-1 treatment is now available for eligible adults by private prescription as Lilly seeks NHS access in England.
- On Monday, Eli Lilly launched Foundayo, an oral weight-loss and diabetes medication, in the UK via private prescription. This marks the drug's first European market availability.
- The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency authorized the drug on August 10, 2026, enabling commercial availability. Foundayo is an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist offering patients an injectable-free alternative.
- Foundayo is licensed for adults with a Body Mass Index of 30 or higher, or those with a BMI between 27 and 30 with weight-related conditions. Pricing is expected between £100 and £120, lower than Mounjaro's £330 monthly cost.
- Lilly is working with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on an assessment for potential NHS rollout. Pharmacists warn patients to access treatments only through safe, regulated pharmacies to avoid counterfeit versions.
- This launch follows Novo Nordisk's Wegovy approval in June, the first oral GLP-1 pill cleared in Britain. Foundayo remains under review in the European Union and is currently only commercially available in the US and UAE besides the UK.
