New museum in California offers immersive experience of the Shroud of Turin
The $5 million exhibit features 360-degree theaters, replicas, and interactive displays to explore the Shroud's history and mystery, running through 2030.
- On Wednesday, an interactive museum about the Shroud of Turin opened at the Christ Cathedral campus in Garden Grove, a $5-million exhibition organizers say will remain at least through 2030.
- Othonia produced the content for the exhibition, with Othonia, Inc., a Rome-based group founded by Rev. Hector Guerra who dreamed of 100 global exhibits, building on flagships in Jerusalem, Rome, Poland, Mexico and the U.S., and creating the immersive segment with a California-based studio.
- The installation includes 360-degree projection room theaters, Shroud replicas, interactive kiosks, and a life-size sculpture of Christ, with a movielike resurrection re-creation where the shrouded body disappears.
- The Most Rev. Timothy Freyer said he hopes the exhibit will reinforce for visitors the power of God's love for all, while Philip Rizzo described a powerful visual of Christ's suffering that made scientific research more relatable.
- Carbon-Dating of cloth scraps dates them to the 13th–14th centuries while some faithful and researchers call for larger samples, and the 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project led by John Jackson found human bloodstains and unexplained image formation.
