Senedd passes ‘first-of-its-kind’ disused tips bill

Senedd members unanimously passed a “first-of-its-kind” law aimed at ensuring the safety of coal and quarry tips.

A first law of its kind to ensure the safety of old coal heaps and quarries was unanimously approved by Parliament yesterday (July 15). The bill, which was originally introduced by Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies last December, will establish the Cymru Derelict Dump Authority, which will be responsible for ensuring that dumps do not endanger the well-being of local residents.
