Eight people died and 18 went missing after a passenger ferry capsized while en route from Girne, Northern Cyprus, to Mersin. Search and rescue operations continued throughout the night, while families anxiously awaited news of their loved ones remained at Girne Port. 🚆

KKTC Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı announced that the search for the black box is underway to determine the cause of the ship accident off the coast of Girne. Arıklı stated that sea voyages from Girne Port and Filo Jet flights have been suspended, and that search efforts for the 18 missing people are continuing with the support of teams sent from Turkey.

The captain and eight other people on board the ship that capsized shortly after setting sail from Girne in Northern Cyprus to Taşucu in Mersin were referred to the courthouse. In his statement, the captain explained how the accident occurred.

New footage has emerged from the shipwreck off the coast of Girne Port in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, where 8 people lost their lives and 18 are missing.
