BCWS Responding to Small Wildfires Near Chase, Johnson Lake

BCWS said five firefighters and a helicopter are responding to the 0.009-hectare blaze near Chase and a 0.2-hectare fire near Johnson Lake.

  • BC Wildfire Service crews are fighting two lightning-sparked wildfires discovered Friday northeast of Kamloops. One fire burns at Aylmer Creek near the Village of Chase, while the second burns in the Johnson Lake area west of Adams Lake.
  • Lightning strikes caused both blazes, which remain small in size. The Aylmer Creek fire measures 0.009 hectares and is out of control, while the Johnson Lake wildfire is listed at 0.2 hectares.
  • Crews are actively containing the fires, with 26 firefighters assigned to one site and five personnel plus a helicopter supporting the other. Workers are establishing hose lays and assessing danger trees.
  • Category 2 and 3 fires are banned within the Kamloops Fire Centre, and all blazes larger than a campfire are prohibited as of 12 p.m. Cooking stones and BBQs remain exempt.
  • Residents should check local government fire restrictions before burning. The BCWS encourages the public to report new wildfires by calling 1-800-663-5555 or texting *5555 using a cell phone or the BCWS app.
