Will new animal welfare law curb illegal trade?
The EU has created its first law on the welfare of dogs and cats to be applied across the bloc, targeting illegal trade and harmful practices. A regulation that was long overdue, considering that 44% of EU households have a pet and it's a billion-dollar business.
The government, at a correspondence session due to some nomotechnical changes, re-examined and approved the draft bill on animal health and sent it for approval by the National Assembly, the Ministry of Agriculture explained.
A future EU regulation obliges all owners of cats and dogs. Above all, the law requires a chip label for pets.

The draft law transposes the European regulation on transmissible animal diseases into Slovenian law and, among other things, determines the national list of diseases.
