New bill requires long-term treatment for misdemeanor arrests

“Someone throws a punch at someone, and they suffer some injury, but not significant injury,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg who pushed for the bill. “You know that, that case, if they were intending to cause you injury, would be in assault three. That’s a misdemeanor.”
